Pastor Warren shared in his sermon this morning from 1 Kings chpt. 3 v 7 -14. In this except from scripture King Solomon and the Lord God share a dialog where Solomon realizes that in comparison to his wise father King David, he is only a child. Solomon acknowledged his inability in his own strength to govern God’s people wisely. He realized that any good leader needed to have not only knowledge but be a discerner of hearts. Being a discerner of hearts enables us to know what God’s way really is in a situation. We may think that we know the right thing to do in a given situation but we must always seek God’s wisdom to avoid the pitfalls of long term regrets because at times the correct response is not always what appears to be the most obvious. Sometimes other people around us may question our response to situations; however, we need not worry if we have prayerfully considered God’s direction for us in that given situation.
In verse 10 God is pleased that Solomon had asked above all else for wisdom therefore God’s response to Solomon’s request was not only giving wisdom to rule but long life and riches. Further, God said that he would have no equal among other kings. In verse 15 Solomon awakes to find that it had been a dream. However, we must not discount that God spoke through dreams to his people as are recorded in the bible and he still at times speaks to his people in this way today.
In summary, it is important to realize that some of us sitting here today are living in a ‘train wreck’, our lives are in this state because we have not asked for God’s guidance and wisdom and we must acknowledge this and turn to God for his mercy and direction. If we will do this He will start to work in our situations however, we may still have to live with some of the consequences of our past for a long time.
